Gordon Ramsay goes for Le Gavroche

Just over a year since Michel Roux closed his legendary Le Gavroche, it has been confirmed that Gordon Ramsay is taking over the site at 43 Upper Brook Street in Mayfair. The new restaurant, due later in 2025, will be led by Matt Abé who is stepping down from his role as chef patron of Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea. The move marks something of a homecoming for Ramsay who, early in his career, worked here under the late Albert Roux.

Pip set for March opening in Manchester

Former Good Food Guide Chef to Watch Mary-Ellen McTague has announced her latest project, Pip, will open in central Manchester on 19th March. Situated on the ground floor of the new Treehouse Hotel, the restaurant will focus on McTague's signature low-waste, seasonal cooking. It's her first opening since The Creameries, which closed in 2022. Joining Pip will be Sister Moon, a Southeast Asian restaurant on the 14th floor of the high-rise hotel, led by Sam Grainger (Medlock Canteen, Belzan, Madre).

New micro-bakery and bistro for York

York city centre is getting a new injection of energy this week with the launch of a micro-bakery, wine bar and all-day bistro. Black Wheat Club which opens on Fossgate on 20th February, is from Marta Obuchowska and Tomek Mlynarski who’ve made their names serving excellent Breton galettes at Krep at the Shambles market. Joining them is baker Sam Battwood, lately of nearby Haxby Bakehouse and Little Arras.

TV star to open Essex restaurant

Pastry chef, author and media personality Ravneet Gill has announced that she will open a restaurant with her husband Mattie Taiano in Chingford, Essex. Gina will be a 'chophouse meets family-run restaurant', named after Taiano's late mother. In a bid to demystify the process of opening a restaurant, the pair have launched a Substack newsletter to document financial models, business plans and share behind-the-scenes stories.
