The towns and villages of East Anglia have more than proved their worth when it comes to vigorously supported local eating places, but our regional winner – the impressively revitalised Greyhound Inn, at Pettistree near Bury St Edmunds – easily stole the show. First-class pub/restaurants are dotted around the region, and we’re also big fans of The Gin Trap Inn at Ringstead near Hunstanton, as well as The Plough at Bolnhurst – a reimagined Tudor hostelry out in the Bedfordshire Wolds, which is testament to the hard work of long-serving hosts Martin and Jayne Lee. Elsewhere, Fancett’s Bistro in Cambridge and L’Hexagone Bistro Français in Norwich are ample proof that everyone loves the comfort and reassurance of a traditional no-frills bistro. The region is packed with inspired possibilities for every palate and pocket, all dedicated to serving their local communities.
