Where to eat

Elizabeth Carter’s top 10 London restaurants for out-of-towners
Published 15 April 2025

Recently, I was asked to provide a hit list of restaurants for out-of-towners. Not the usual top-rated suspects but those wonderful, well-regarded places that sum up eating out in London without being too spendy. It was a surprisingly tough call. London’s reputation as one of the world’s most dynamic food scenes means that extremely worthy candidates live in every borough. You almost can’t run out of great places to try – especially if, like team GFG, you spend your time obsessively keeping track of new openings.

But that’s our job, to tell you where’s good to go. As a team, we’re always on the move, discovering places, yet every now and again we come across a special spot, one that impresses so much we look forward to revisiting when we can. That’s the basis of this list, ten little black-book worthy restaurants, ranging from everyday hangouts to hot tickets that have proved their staying power. While some are well-oiled operations, others have their charming little quirks, but each one feels completely essential to London.

I’ve had the great pleasure of enjoying them all, now it’s over to you.
