Min Jiang sits on the 10th floor of the Royal Garden Hotel, which is privately owned by the Khoo family; one of the wealthiest in Singapore. At lunchtimes, the panoramic view of Kensington Gardens and beyond makes you fall in love with London all over again; especially with the autumn colours at this time of the year. The dining space is bright and understated with stone flooring, elegant dark wood chairs, tables covered with white cloth and Chinese porcelain and artefacts displayed on dark wooden shelving. Private rooms are equally aesthetic. Service is led by the charming and warm Chun Lee; although the rest of the service team is a few paces behind him. Min Jiang is my go-to-restaurant for dim sum; and I regularly dine here with friends and family. The Beijing duck which is expertly carved at your table is highly recommended; and don't forget to request the rest of the duck meat to be served with stir-fried noodles. First-rate dim sum includes mushroom cheong fun, mini char sui bao, silky crab dumpling, Shanghai dumpling with a vinegary dip and pan-fried turnip cake with XO sauce. Crumbly egg tart made to order is a good way to end a lunch here. Cocktails, sake and wines (from £46) carry steep markups.
