Brighton's Silo to join forces with London brewery on new Hackney Wick site
Brighton chef Douglas McMaster is planning to bring his zero-waste restaurant, Silo, to London as part of a new collaboration with the Crate Brewery. Crate has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise a sum of £500,000 to fund a major refurbishment of its Hackney Wick home, The White Building. The refurbishment of the former print factory will see Silo open above the brewery and the building will also include an extended ground floor bar and a new event space.
Brat to host one-off dinner collaboration with chefs from top Spanish restaurant
Brat will be welcoming Aitor Arregi and Pablo Vicari of award-winning Spanish restaurant Elkano for a one-off collaboration dinner. Elkano in Getaria, San Sebastián, is famed for its 'over-fire' cooking, which has been an inspiration to Brat’s style. The dinner will feature a six-course menu created by Aitor and Pablo with Brat head chef Tomos Parry, championing their shared ethos of cooking over charcoal. Rascills owners announce plans for new pub in North Yorkshire
The former co-owners of York restaurant Rascills restaurant, which closed in January, have revealed plans for their next venture. Husband and wife team Richard and Lindsey Johns are taking over a pub located between Malton and Helmsley in North Yorkshire. Currently called the Malt Shovel, the couple will be renaming it the Hovingham Inn and it will reopen after renovation work in May.
Brian Hughson named as replacement for Aiden Byrne at 20 Stories
Manchester's 20 Stories has announced its new head chef following the departure of Aiden Byrne last November. Liverpool-born Brian Hughson is taking over the kitchen and it marks a return to Manchester for the chef, who first worked at the city’s influential Mash & Air in the 1990s. Since then, Hughson has worked mostly in London restaurants including The Savoy Grill, The Dorchester and Rhodes W1.
Former Cottage in the Wood chef moves to Wirral hotel Thornton Hall
Richard Collingwood has been named as the new head chef of the Lawns restaurant at Wirral hotel Thornton Hall. Collingwood previously worked at The Cottage in the Wood in Cumbria, the Bath Priory and The Dower House at the Royal Crescent hotel, also in Bath.
