Paul Ainsworth takes over from Nathan Outlaw at Cornish pub The Mariners
Paul Ainsworth has taken over Cornish pub The Mariners following the departure of fellow chef and friend Nathan Outlaw, who left last month after five years. Ainsworth and his wife, Emma, have acquired the lease of the pub in Rock in partnership with Sharp’s Brewery. The Mariners is located across the Camel Estuary from Ainsworth’s four other businesses in Padstow including his flagship No.6 restaurant. The Mariners is currently closed for its annual break and will re-open in early spring.
Anne-Sophie Pic and Clare Smyth join forces to celebrate International Women’s Day
Anne-Sophie Pic of La Dame de Pic and Clare Smyth of Core will host a dinner to celebrate International Women’s Day next month. The event at La Dame de Pic London at Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square will showcase a selection of signature dishes as part of a five-course dinner. Dishes will include Pic’s turbot with smoked beetroot rose and grapefruit, batak pepper and hibiscus emulsion and Smyth’s signature ‘Core-teser’ dessert filled with chocolate, malt and hazelnut. New East London restaurant opens with ex-St John chef at the helm
A new restaurant has opened in a former art deco cinema in Dalston with former St John executive chef Chris Gillard at the helm. EartH Kitchen is part of new multi-arts space Evolutionary Arts Hackney on Stoke Newington Road. The seasonal menu will include grilled ox heart with chips and smoked sprats with cucumber, kohlrabi and chervil. Restaurant Manager Toni Castillo, also formerly of St. John, will pour wines from a list with a European focus.
Former 108 Garage head chef to join Pidgin in Hackney
Greg Clarke, who previously cooked at 108 Garage in Notting Hill, moving to Hackney restaurant Pidgin as head chef. Clarke replaces Adolfo De Cecco, who has reportedly left to open his own restaurant. Clarke started his career working under Tom Aikens, Martin Wishart and at Le Gavroche. He was also a development chef at Midsummer House in Cambridge and head chef at the Typing Room.
London closures continue as Neo Bistro shuts its doors
Mayfair restaurant Neo Bistro has closed after just two years. The closure comes two months after the departure of chef Mark Jarvis, who is also involved with Anglo in Farringdon and Stem in Mayfair.
