Tom Kitchin opens the doors of his new pub with rooms
Tom Kitchin has opened the doors of The Bonnie Badger, a pub with rooms in the village of Gullane, a 30-minute drive from Edinburgh on Scotland’s East Coast. Previously The Golf Inn and dating from 1836, the building has undergone a full refurbishment and features a 60-cover dining room, a bar and 14 bedrooms. The restaurant, called The Stables, will follow Kitchin’s ‘From Nature to Plate’ ethos and the menu features steak pie with bone marrow and Jerusalem artichoke and pearl barley risotto.
Stevie Parle to close Dalston restaurant Rotorino
Stevie Parle has confirmed that he is closing Rotorino in Dalston. The southern Italian restaurant opened five years ago and was part of Parle’s portfolio of restaurants that also includes Pastaio, Palatino and Craft. Although the chef hasn’t set an official closing date for Rotorino, the restaurant’s website isn’t taking bookings after April 9. Parle closed his first restaurant, The Dock Kitchen, last year.
Whatley Manor to close its two restaurants for a month to install energy efficient kitchen
Whatley Manor in Wiltshire is closing its Dining Room and Grey's Brasserie restaurants for a month after Christmas during a full refurbishment of the hotel. Executive chef Niall Keating will oversee the design of the new kitchen, which will no longer use gas appliances in order to reduce energy costs as well as the hotel’s carbon footprint. The hotel at Easton Grey near Malmesbury will close from January 6 to February 13.
Stellar line-up of guest chefs announced for Hawksmoor's annual charity dinner
Hawksmoor Guildhall is to host a special dinner in March to raise money for Action Against Hunger. The annual 'Dream Team' dinner will see an impressive line-up of chefs cooking different courses including Jackson Boxer of St Leonards, Tom Brown of Cornerstone, Selin Kiazim of Oklava and Sticky Walnut’s Gary Usher. There will also be steaks cooked by Hawksmoor’s Richard Turner and Matt Brown. The charity dinner takes place on March 23 and costs £150 per ticket from here.
