Thomas Maynard named as head chef of the first Bar 44 to open outside Wales

Thomas Maynard has been confirmed as the head chef of the new Bar 44 Spanish tapas restaurant in Bristol, which is due to open in August. Currently head chef of the Cardiff Bar 44, Maynard is an experienced fish and seafood chef, having previously worked at London’s J.Sheekey and Scott’s, as well as working for Stephen Terry at The Hardwick near Abergavenny. The Bristol restaurant is located in Clifton Village and it is the first Bar 44 to open outside of Wales.

House of Tides head chef Danny Parker leaving for 'pastures new'

Danny Parker is leaving House of Tides, Kenny Atkinson’s Newcastle-upon-Tyne restaurant where he worked his way up to become head chef since joining in 2014. Parker, who leaves in August, has yet to confirm his next moves although he said via social media that he was ‘moving on to pastures new’. In the meantime, he will be appearing on Great British Menu as one of three chefs representing the North East.

Ex-Barrafina chef to head up kitchen of new Latin American fusion restaurant

A new Kensington restaurant specialising in Latin American food has appointed former Barrafina chef Francisco Lafee as its head chef. Due to open on July 20, Zuaya on High Street Kensington is owned by Madrid-born twins Alberto and Arian Zandi. The menu at the 85-cover restaurant features dishes from Mexico, Peru and Argentina including ceviche, robata octopus and purple taco with 18-hour slow cooked lamb neck, ras el hanout, smoked cinnamon pineapple and coriander. Lafee was previously sous chef at the Dean Street branch of Barrafina.

Iconic London restaurant The Wolseley opens a second site in Oxfordshire

Jeremy King and Chris Corbin have opened a second Wolseley in Oxfordshire. The new sibling of the Piccadilly original is located in the designer shopping village at Bicester and will open all day with a menu featuring Wolseley favourites such as smoked haddock Monte Carlo, calf's liver and bacon and chicken Kiev. There is also a shop selling Wolseley-made chocolates, biscuits and gifts.
