It’s trad pub decor all the way at this Islington hostelry, which is as rustically pubby as you can get without achieving a sense of neglect. Inside, it looks down to earth and under-dressed, with a wood floor that’s reassuringly scuffed. Here is an invaluable local resource that offers pitch-perfect service alongside a menu that might feature generous starters such as veal sweetbread à la forestière, as well as traditional classics including rump steak with chips, salad and salsa verde, plus Sunday lunches of whole roast chicken with roast potatoes, veg, bread sauce and gravy.
