‘It's a café, not fine dining,’ insists a regular visitor to this Salisbury institution – a striking Victorian grain mill conversion that also houses a gallery, a shop selling quality arts and crafts, and artists’ studios. With indoor and outdoor seating (in a sheltered courtyard), it makes an attractive daytime proposition whatever the weather and is considered ‘by far the best place to have lunch’ in the city. Fish fingers with avocado and wasabi, a bowl of buckwheat noodle and mushroom tom yum soup with sweet potato, pak choi, chilli and coriander, or toasted sourdough with rare roast beef, mustard mayo, watercress, beetroot and horseradish are just some of the options, with the likes of apple and rhubarb pie with whisky ice cream bringing up the rear.
