A haven for doughty hikers on the West Highland Way, this personally run hotel matches its impeccable welcome, tartan upholstery and cheery local art with a hearty menu that runs from Cullen skink and haggis croquettes with whisky sauce to Schiehallion beer-battered haddock and chips. Superb Scottish ingredients also figure in more ambitious dishes such as seared loin of Taynuilt venison with celeriac purée, red berry jus, confit shallot and crispy potato terrine, while traditional sticky toffee and date pudding is the best-selling dessert. Hotel breakfasts are a full Caledonian affair, and there are malt whiskies galore on the drinks list.
