Bravas team to open a new Spanish seafood bar in Bristol’s harbourside
The team behind Bristol’s Bravas restaurant is opening a seafood-focused tapas bar in the city’s harbourside area. Inspired by the seafood markets of Spain, Gambas will serve tapas, seafood and paella, as well as having a seafood counter for diners to buy produce from Cornwall's fish markets to cook at home. Gambas, which opens in June, will be located at CARGO 2, the shipping container development in Bristol’s Wapping Wharf, which is already home to Box-E and Tare.
London debut for former Noma chef Damian Wawrzyniak
A chef who worked at the acclaimed Danish restaurant Noma is opening his first London restaurant next month. Polish-born Damian Wawrzyniak has taken over a former Turkish and Persian restaurant in Clapham and renamed it Jan 2.0, which will have an open kitchen and robata grill. The menu will include sharing plates and an à la carte menu, with an emphasis on curing and preserving methods.
Mary-Ellen McTague opens The Creameries in Manchester next week
Former Fat Duck chef Mary-Ellen McTague opens her new Manchester restaurant The Creameries next week. In a former Edwardian creamery in the city’s Chorlton area, the all-day business combines a restaurant and bakery, with lunch and dinner menus driven by locally grown vegetables and ethically sourced meat and fish. After working for Heston Blumenthal, McTague ran the Aumbry in Manchester for five years until its closure in 2014.
Former Castle Terrace chef and manager launch new Edinburgh restaurant this summer
A former chef and manager from Edinburgh’s Castle Terrace are launching their own restaurant in the city this summer. Roberta Hall, who also worked as a chef at Kitchin, and Shaun McCarron open the 18-cover Little Chartroom in June and they say it will be a neighbourhood-style bistro serving ‘simple and seasonal’ food. The couple also ran The Abbot’s Elm in Cambridgeshire before recently returning to Edinburgh to set up Little Chartroom.
Gordon Ramsay opens a ‘by the slice’ pizza restaurant in London
Gordon Ramsay has opened a new pizzeria on the same site as Bread Street Kitchen in London. Called Street Pizza, it offers “bottomless” Neapolitan-style sourdough pizza in four flavours: Margherita, pepperoni, charred aubergine, and corn and chorizo, plus a daily changing special, all served by the slice. The restaurant, which doesn’t take bookings, also has a Negroni ice-cream machine.
