Atul Kochhar to open new Mayfair restaurant, former Whatley Manor chef to launch two restaurants in the Cotswolds, new seven-course weekend tasting menu at The Petersham and The Palmerston to close its doors

New Mayfair restaurant for Indian chef Atul Kochhar

Indian chef Atul Kochhar is opening a new restaurant in Mayfair next month. His first venture with Tina English, Kanishka aims to explore lesser known regions of Indian food. The restaurant on Maddox Street will showcase the cuisine of territories previously unexplored by London’s restaurants, particularly the 'Seven Sister States' in the eastern region of India, using seasonal British produce where possible. Signature starters will include Kachela Maas (a Sikkim-inspired venison tartare with mustard oil mayonnaise, naan crouton and onions) and with mains such as Samundri Khazana Alleppey, a dish of pan-seared seafood, Alleppey sauce and smoked cabbage poriyal.

Martin Burge to launch two new restaurants in the Cotswolds

Former Whatley Manor executive chef Martin Burge is opening two restaurants at Cotswold hotel Dormy House. Located on the 400-acre Farncombe Estate, the two new restaurants will offer both fine dining and more informal experiences. Located in the hotel’s main dining area, The Back Garden, which opens on 13 February, will focus on locally sourced ingredients including produce from the hotel’s kitchen garden. On 27 February, the more formal 12-cover MO restaurant will launch, serving a £90 seven-course tasting menu.

The Petersham offers new seven-course tasting menu for weekends

The Petersham restaurant in Richmond has launched a new seven-course tasting menu. Available for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays only, the menu has been created by head chef Jean-Didier Gouges, who describes it as ‘combining modern and theatrical British cuisine’, using the best seasonal ingredients on offer. Dishes include ‘Lost in the Forest’ which contains pickled mushrooms, crispy black rice and vine leaf, and Angus beef fillet with potatoes, morels and girolles, beetroot and carrot purée, braised onion, spinach and truffle jus. The tasting menu costs £75 for six courses with canapés.

Bombay Bustle to host series of pop-up cinema dining events

Mayfair restaurant Bombay Bustle is opening a pop-up cinema for a series of film screenings through to April. The Indian restaurant run by chef Samyukta Nair will host a series of Bombay Talkies every Monday evening from February 11 until April 15. Guests will be served a glass of Champagne, canapés and a three-course dinner created by executive chef, Surender Mohan. Inspired by the original Bombay Talkies, the movie studio which revolutionised cinema in Mumbai in the 1930s, the series kicks off with Wes Anderson’s critically acclaimed film The Grand Budapest Hotel. Other films due to be screened include Never Let Me Go, Gravity and The Lobster. Tickets are £52 per person and can be purchased here.

Vice & Virtue owner to kick off series of chef takeovers at sibling venue

Luke Downing of Leeds restaurant Vice & Virtue is cooking at sibling restaurant Aperitivo this weekend as part of a series of chef takeovers. Downing will be taking over the kitchen of Aperitivo until 10 February and the menu is a surprise until the evening. Bookings can be made here.

The Palmerston announces closure

It was announced today that The Palmerston, East Dulwich will close it’s doors for the last time on 3 June. They shared the news ‘with a heavy heart’ that after 15 years, their lease is not to be renewed on the venue. The Victorian neighbourhood pub has featured in the Good Food Guide for the past 5 years. The owners have urged their customers to ‘Please come say hi before we go’.
