Ynyshir’s Gareth Ward to open second restaurant in Wales
Published 03 October 2022

The chef Gareth Ward will open a second restaurant in north-west Wales next year.

Ward, who has been running his award-winning restaurant Ynyshir since 2013, told Big Hospitality he's taking on the Number Twenty One bistro site in Machynlleth.
The restaurant will be called Gwen, after Ward's mother, and in charge of the kitchen will be Ynyshir head chef Corrin Harrison, who will be working with Ward on what will become an 'intimate restaurant and wine bar'.
The space will fit just eight covers and a 10-course menu will be served in the evening. The wine bar area will be a coffee shop by day.
Ward told Big Hospitality: 'I've always loved the restaurant, so when the owner offered us the chance to take it on I jumped at it'. It will be the same kind of concept as Ynyshir but more for the locals'.
There are no details yet on dishes or price - we've asked Ward for more - but it does appear to be a step toward a more accessible dining option from the team.
This would fit with a more general trend developing in the restaurant biz. There remains space abound for the high-end, but chefs are continuing to seek out sites for secondary operations.

Ward, of course, is also building a pub at his Ynyshir site. Much is happening in Wales.
