Yellowhammer

Greater Manchester, Stockport - Bakery & Café

Relaxing in a way that its high-end Stockport mothership, Where The Light Gets In, just can't be, Yellowhammer is a bakery and pottery by day. When the weekend approaches, the small plates come out, assembled from raw ingredients or cooked on a countertop hotplate. Crunchy cabbage and apple salad with a bright green Georgian dressing is sharp and generous, while charred merguez sausage (with local yoghurt and chunky romesco) tastes (and smells) rich and resonant. The bread is excellent, and it's worth trying the single pudding – perhaps ricotta and coffee mousse with coffee sabayon and best-in-class Brazil nut shortbread. Wine is reassuringly natural and the space is seriously stripped-back (remember you're in a working bakery).
