Situated bang in the centre of Honley, this casual shop-fronted bar-cum-restaurant with its bold Spanish-themed artworks and stylish dressed-down simplicity has huge appeal. Customers remain a loyal bunch, drawn back time and again for Punch's self-styled ‘tapas with a British twist’. As the chatter rises and tabletops fill chaotically with small plates, the satisfaction levels are palpable. Expect pan con tomate with white anchovies, pork and herb albondigas, cod fritters, and Rioja-braised chorizo as standard, but don’t forget to explore the more adventurous stuff – perhaps a ‘standout’ onion bhaji Scotch egg with curried alioli or ‘really savoury’ mini lamb burgers with red wine-infused cheese and a side of halloumi fries (soufflé-like in their fluffiness and crispness). The menu also includes meze boards with a choice of fish, meat or vegetables (including an excellent lentil and sweet potato pâté), and there’s a good 'three for two' midweek deal. Service is excellent and the drinks offering is broad – remember this is a bar, too. Look out for draught beers and ciders, a gin menu, cocktails and a line-up of 14 reasonably priced, mainly European wines – with eight by the glass, plus carafes of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec.
