This pint-sized, split-level tapas joint keeps the Spanish flag flying in buzzy Ramsbottom. Levanter may lack space, but it has a bar and a few squeezed-in tables, or you can take advantage of the more expansive (but regularly rammed) ‘al fuera’ terrace. The menu mixes seafood classics from Malaga, Cádiz and Huelva with robust meat and vegetable dishes from Granada and Córdoba: plates of jamón, charcuterie and para picar nibbles give way to croquetas and an ever-changing selection of plates ranging from Andalusian-style hake with manzanilla, garlic, tomatoes and breadcrumbs to melting, spreadable sobrasada paired with honey, blue cheese and walnuts. Also look out for the daily fish specials as well as hefty feasting dishes such as the ‘capricho oro txuleton’ – a 1kg bone-in rib steak from Galician dairy cattle. To finish, it has to be a Santiago tart or a Basque cheesecake served with raisins soaked in Pedro Ximénez. Back-up comes from a lively list of sherries, cavas, artisan beers and Spanish regional wines (many of which are available by the glass).
