Sometimes only fish and chips will do, and if the urge hits while you’re in Bury St Edmunds, this is the place to go. They fry seven days a week, serving the perkiest cod, haddock or plaice licked with rapeseed-oil batter and a generous pile of triple-cooked chips. The fishcakes deserve a special mention (just the right ratio of well-seasoned filling to coating), so too the moreish battered halloumi and homemade tartare sauce.
