‘Please beware of thieves in the air,' implores Flotsam & Jetsam: tourists and lucky locals aren’t the only ones who covet everything that emerges from the frier at this phenomenally successful ‘seafood and frites’ joint. Just a bucket and spade’s throw from Viking Bay’s beautiful sandy beach, the takeout was born during the pandemic as a clever response to the challenges lockdown posed to the industry – it made our Platinum list of ‘best newcomers’ in 2021. And for anyone craving an old-school carb-on-carb treat, a ‘Flotsam frites butty’ will be just the ticket. The only potential concern – bar protecting your purchases from aerial bombardment – is where to start with the panoply of sauces, from garlic aïoli to squid-ink hot sauce and truffle mayo: the happiest of predicaments, we think. Keep an eye on their social media for special offers such as a half-lobster and frites for £12.50. To drink? Cans of wine, cans of beer, cans of spirits and CanO Water. Open Thur–Sun (weather dependent, so check for details).
