San Sebastián comes to Bermondsey in the shape of this ‘fiercely independent’ venue set up by the team behind the Rose pub across the road. Green tiles, embossed windows, carved oak panelling and an open kitchen behind a repurposed church pew set the scene, while local suppliers furnish a menu where seasonal pintxos are the top shouts. Chorizo with piquillo sauce, foie gras on toast with Pedro Ximénez reduction and a cheeky Spanish take on battered haddock with pil pil and vinegar sauce are ‘truly sublime’, likewise croquetas and other tapas classics including Galician octopus with confit potatoes. ‘A unique cosy place’ with terrific staff and a well-curated Spanish drinks list.
