Steven and Stephanie Dray have been busy during the COVID-19 hiatus, extending and diversifying their likeable tapas spot on the Kent coast. Originally conceived as a little slice of Barcelona in Broadstairs, it now operates as a Spanish deli by day and a restaurant by night; it also sells tapas 'to go' (order in-store or from the website) and has an online shop. The kitchen handles lots of classic ideas from different regions, so nibble on some pan con tomate while choosing three items from the fixed-price sharing menu. Try jamón croquetas or patatas bravas before one of the more creative curveballs – perhaps organic sobrasada sausage with chickpeas and spinach, a warm salad of smoked eel and grilled pancetta or Romano peppers stuffed with salt cod, potato and Manchego. Finish with Basque cheesecake and blueberries or regional cheeses served on an olive-wood board. Given that the restaurant is named after one of Spain’s trendier grape varieties, it’s no surprise that the short wine list is big on Albariño whites.
